Does Sky q use a different LNB
To run Sky Q and normal Sky or Freesat at the same time off a satellite dish. You will need to instead of installing a wideband LNB, install a Hybrid LNB instead. There are couple different makes and models but essentially, they have the same final result.

What is the difference between Sky HD and Sky Q
The two main boxes are the premium Sky Q 2TB (formerly Sky Q Silver) and Sky Q 1TB. The key difference is you need the 2TB box for 4K Ultra HD content. The Sky Q Mini is for bedrooms and second rooms, and piggy-backs off your main Q box.
What should the signal strength be for Sky Q
Typically a signal strength reading of 60% or more is expected. Anything lower than that may imply LNB problem, excessive cable lengths or you may need to realign your Sky dish. Our Sky dish installation page provides tips to help with realigning the satellite dish. A satellite meter is required to get the best signal.
Do I get a new dish with sky Q
At present, there’s no specific update on when prospective buyers will be able to get their hands on this new, broadband-only Sky Q option. However, Sky pledged to begin to offer Sky Q without the need for a satellite dish in Austria and Italy sometime this year during its latest earnings call.
Does Sky Q require a new dish
Sky confirms no satellite dish required from late 2018. The new plans will see the latest Sky Q TV service made available to customers without the installation of a satellite dish, with programmes instead delivered over broadband to a new set-top box.
Does Sky q need two cables
This isn’t the case with the Sky Q box as it needs two satellite cables connected to a wideband LNB. This is because the two signals are not identical like with Sky+ and Freesat+. But like I already said it is possible to Sky Q on one cable with no loss of services using dSCR technology.
Do you need Sky HD with Sky Q
To watch in Ultra HD, you’ll need: A Sky Q 2TB box with the Sky Q Multiscreen subscription. To watch sports, movies or Box Sets in Ultra HD you’ll need the Sky Sports, Sky Cinema and Sky Box Sets subscriptions.
How many dish cables do I need for Sky Q
Only you know the Probable dish location and main Q box position @Twcat19 . You need enough internally to reach your Q box and best to allow a couple of metres at the dish end (per cable). As you say two runs are required.
Does LNB affect picture quality
A better LNB can improve quality – if it has a genuinely better (lower) noise figure throughout the band and possibly more gain . Actually it cannot improve picture quality – except in very adverse weather conditions!
How do I fix no signal on sky
Check Signal Strength
- Switch the Sky + HD box and TV to standby.
- Wait a few minutes and then switch off all connected items and unplug them from the mains.
- Disconnect and then reconnect the cables from the satellite to Dish Input 1 and Dish Input 2 at the back of your box.
What is a good satellite signal strength
For the more amateur folks, all you need to know is that the signal strength is a number between 0 and 100 where 100 is the best signal you can get. Signal strength in the 90s is great. There’s no need to fine tune any further if your signal strength is that high on all satellites, even if it used to be higher.
